The Messenger

This painting features a solitary black crow, mid-call, against a vivid red background—a bold departure from my usual earthy tones. The striking contrast between the deep black feathers and the intense red creates a sense of energy and presence, while the addition of genuine gold leaf brings texture, light, and a sense of reverence to the piece.

Carefully rendered in oil, the bird’s feathers are layered with fine detail, capturing its sharp intelligence and raw beauty. The gold leaf was applied by hand, adding a unique and reflective quality that changes subtly with the light.

Crows often symbolize transformation, mystery, and communication—themes I wanted to explore with a modern, almost icon-like approach in this work. I'm truly happy with how this piece came together—it feels powerful, luminous, and alive.
