While Hazel in the book is a rabbit, I chose to paint a hare—an animal just as free, powerful, and full of character. The deep amber eyes and the soft, realistic fur immediately draw you into the painting.

The creation of Hazel began with a detailed sketch, followed by an acrylic underpainting to map out tones and depth. The final layers in oil paint added rich textures and subtle nuances to the fur, making the hare almost tangible.
